By a deed dated June 1st, 1876, John Galvin (1853-1917) leased a licensed premises at 21 William St from The Earl of Listowel at an annual rent of £32.

John had arrived in Listowel from the nearby townland of Rathea and commenced a family business that has spanned four generations. At the time, Publicans would often purchase more than their own requirements from brewers and distillers and subsequently offer excess stock for sale to neighbouring businesses - the enterprise that grew from this initial overstocking is the business we now have today. John's eldest son, John J. (1884-1935) carried the business forward, expanding into flour milling, auctioneering, fuel and opening the first Ford dealership in the area. John J purchased the freehold of the original premises in May 1919 for sixty-eight pounds, seven shillings and one penny and during his lifetime the business prospered. John died suddenly at the age of 51, leaving a young family. His wife, Elizabeth, ran the business until their son Billy took over at age 18. Billy (1923-2015) concentrated his energy on the beverage side of the business, becoming a cask distributor for Messrs A Guinness Son & Co in 1955, continuing the long association between both companies. This evolved into a full Agency from the Dublin brewer in 1965. The company was incorporated in 1968. During his time at the helm, Billy greatly expanded the business through Kerry and Limerick and was a familiar and well-loved figure in the trade. John joined the business in 1987 and over the following years, the mantle was passed to the latest generation. Highlights over the past number of years include the acquisition of neighbouring Guinness Agent John Fitzgerald & Son in 2006 and the wholesale beverage interests of CocaCola Hellenic in Killarney in 2010. This expanded the company's customer base to the southern part of Kerry. 2016 saw the integration of the Forrestal Wine Merchant business into the group to improve its wine offering to customers.
